BANK CARD SCAM

Started by: cindy (5971)

Yesterday I had a call from Visa( so called) asking whether I had certain amounts of money drawn out of My account, when I asked them which Bank they where from they would not answer, They put phone down when I asked again. I checked with the bank to see if anything had been taken out They checked and said it was a SCAM. The number came up as 01806583909. So be AWARE.

Yes, thanks Cindy. I rarely get phone calls of that nature as I have my phone blocked against most of these sorts of calls, but the odd one or two sneak in. If they start off by saying "would you mind answering a few questions" (or something like that) I just say "no" and cut them off. Then, I check the phone number they've rang from and, invariably, a website will come up with reviews by people who have been caught out and reported them as scam.

I know I've mentioned this before some while ago, but since my DD card was cloned a few years ago, I've been as careful as anybody can be to avoid scams.

Good on you, Cindy, for being so vigilant.

01806583909 is a VOIP number operated by IP Voice Networks Ltd. Because it's a virtual number, it isn't geographically linked to anywhere so could be from anywhere in The World.

Nanaj:

Yes, India. When my card was cloned it finally transpired that I'd been charged $95 by a porno company in Mumbai. Luckily, my bank spotted this error very quickly and contacted me to confirm that I was not responsible for the transaction. There was a lot more to it than that but, suffice to say, I couldn't use my card and had to wait for a new one to be issued - this was on a Thursday evening and I had no cash, so on Friday my boss loaned me £200 to cover me until I received it. These people just don't care, whether it be by phone, or any other means.
